UK Immigration Law - Failed to Seek Asylum Monday, September 27, 2010

Under the strict UK immigration Law, those who failed to seek asylum in the United Kingdom will be or may be detained to any of the detention centres all over the UK. However, detention may not forthcoming, not all failed seekers are put in detention. Those that found to be unruly and do not submit themselves to the rules will be held in detention, but if this is absolutely necessary. Many who failed to seek asylum, may be granted a temporary provision to stay in the UK until the UK immigration officers have made all necessary arrangements for their removal.

Anyone who failed to seek asylum in the UK have a temporary leave to remain, and they would find all available means to be granted asylum, that's why they appeal after appeal until they wear out all the means they have for the process. The immigration lawyer who represents the asylum seeker will also be responsible for seeing off his client to the airport. As any lawyer would do, he would update his client of the recent developments of the case. If the asylum seeker contravene to these provision (temporary leave to remain), he will be put to a detention centre.

If asylum seekers failed to seek asylum in the UK, a written notice will be dispatched to them explaining that they are denied of asylum in the UK and they are ordered to leave the UK as soon as possible. Many times in the past, asylum seekers will be detained at the moment the written notice is received and the worst part is they and their family may be detained as well. Currently there are a few, if not less than ten centres for detention all over the UK. These detention centres meant to hold the asylum seekers who failed to seek asylum until the deportation order is served.

There is another issue to deal with for those who failed to seek asylum in the UK. Some are confounding and the very thing they wanted is to move away from the violence in their own country, now they feel they face mortal danger in the midst of all the growing number of failed seekers of asylum in detention centres. Many also feel that they are unjustly detained because they committed no crime but to claim asylum and now here they are cramped along with misdemeanours. The cramped confinements of these detention centres are a risky place and some are victims of abuse and other violent acts among the detainees. To date, there are more than 20,000 asylum seekers held in detention.

The UK government has to deal with many mind boggling issues when it comes to deportation of those who failed to seek asylum in the UK. Some may be uncooperative; some are refused by the airline companies because of the threat of their behaviour, and the UK immigration Law concerns about the true conditions of the asylum seeker back home. Now, the UK government is making bold strides to speed up deportation process especially for those who are what they call undesirables. And now, those who are refused asylum are quickly deported just like that.

Tiny grenades deliver drugs by detonation Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Read more: www.newscientist.com Nanoparticles packed with drugs can be delivered quickly to tissue if they are loaded into larger exploding capsules Video: Nanoparticles packed with drugs can be delivered to tissue faster if they are loaded into larger exploding capsules (Footage courtesy ACS) Detonating explosives near sick people is not generally a good idea, but microscopic grenades that go off painlessly inside the body could accelerate the delivery of drugs to diseased tissue, say researchers. Carbon nanotubes and other nanomaterials are touted as being perfect "mules" to deliver drugs because they can pass freely into cells and even cell nuclei. But the tiny structures diffuse very slowly through biological tissue, which could limit their therapeutic benefit. Typically, 200-nanometre particles take nearly 9 hours to diffuse just 400 micrometers in water, says Bruno De Geest, a chemical engineer at Ghent University in Belgium. But De Geest and colleagues can propel nanoparticles the same distance 800 times faster by hurling them from an exploding microscopic grenade. Sweet centre Their tiny grenades are made from a rigid but porous polymer membrane that contains a gel based on the sugar dextran. As water seeps through the membrane it degrades the chemical cross-links holding the gel together. The gel swells and eventually bursts the capsule open, spewing its contents outwards. De Geest's team loaded the gel with green fluorescent nanoparticles to make it possible to ...

URFA - The City of Prophets in Turkey's South East Anatolia Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Sanliurfa is located on the great fertile plain of upper Mesopotamia in Turkey's south eastern Anatolia region and is one of the oldest known civilised areas in the world. Its history has been recorded from the 4th century BC, but may date back to the 12th century BC. Urfa has been identified as the birthplace of Abraham and Job.

The city is also known as the 'City of Prophets' as it is believed that the prophets Hiob, Jethro, St. George and Abraham lived here. The cave that is believed to be the birthplace of Abraham has been preserved but now has several mosques surrounding it.

Despite its history, there is evidence of modernity, as new districts with modern apartment blocks, shops and restaurants are expanding. However, the city's old quarters with their stone houses built around courtyards, mosques and villagers still evoke traditional images of the oriental culture that the rest of modern Turkey has tried very hard to shake off. Take a walk through the old bazaar with its old inns and feel yourself being transported to another time.

For western travellers, this is the main attraction of Urfa. It is very easy to be seduced by the oriental charm of the town but the poor neighbourhoods, where people live in caves houses, serve as a stark reminder that the south eastern regions of the country are plagued by poverty, despite Turkey's relatively good economic performance in recent years.

But Urfa has more to offer than just charm. Tourists generally visit Urfa to experience its archaeological and ethnographical attractions and ancient history lovers will find museums which exhibit remains from the Neolithic and Chalcolithic eras from the lower Euphrates region.

Urfa is famous for its pool full of fish located right in the town centre. The story of this pool known as the 'Balikli Gol' (fish lake) dates back to Mohammed's times when an Islamic holy man was about to be burned by non-believers, who had prepared a fire to burn him with but the logs turned into carp and the fire turned into water and the fish lake was formed.

On the other side of this pool, is the Ottoman Rizvaniye Mosque. The Firfirli Mosque, which was once the church of the Apostles, is also worth a visit. Sanli Urfa Citadel and Ayn-i Zeliha.

Urfa in many ways feels like a conservative country town. Alcohol is not readily available, especially around the fish lake area, due to the number of mosques present. However, the town does have several pubs. The tea gardens are lovely, especially in the evenings, but there is segregation for families or single men.

The population is comprises mainly of Kurds and Turks but there is a significant Assyrian/Syriac community living there. Foreign visitors will feel comfortable; the city has a low crime rate harassment of women is rare. Nevertheless, due to the higher number of men than women on the streets, foreign women may feel better travelling with at least one other person.

Hot Tub in Spain - Water Therapy Tuesday, September 14, 2010

The word spa is taken from the famous natural mineral water springs at Spa in Belgium and has become used as a common noun to describe any place with a mineral or medicinal spring. Hydro is a prefix meaning produced or derived from water or the flow and movement in water and one obvious example is "Hydroelectricity" electricity derived from Water.

So the point of all this is to try and define the word Hydrospa and my own thinking is that is a spa effect derived form the movement or flow of water.

Water is an amazing resource. With out we would not survive on the planet. A liquid that we can drink and sustain life but is a fluid capable of being solid when frozen and often used in physiotherapy to help recovery from injuries and to relieve muscle stiffness and aches by assisting in the reduction of lactic acid.

Warm soothing water helps to open the blood vessels to naturally assist and improve blood circulation round the body.

The increased circulation helps to bring nutrients and thereby helps the tissue and muscle groups around arthritic joints relax, and promotes the flow of endorphins in the body.

Treatment by massage to the hands and feet is known as Reflexology and this is based on the fact that there are reflexes in the feet and hands that correspond to various parts of the body. The massaging effect of the warm water helps to apply gentle pressure to the feet and hands increasing circulation and providing respite to specific joint and muscular functions.

Modern day hot Tubs have a flow of water from a variety of massage Jets so that the combined mixing of air and warm water produces a nice Jet or stream of warm water that massages the body and limbs that in many ways reproduces the ancient practice of water massage therapy for the 21st Century. For many thousands of years, people have naturally been drawn to the hot springs and Spa's such as at Spa in Belgium where the water naturally springs from the earth bubbling naturally aerated and often full of heat.

Relaxing heat, muscle stimulation, and lighter-than-air buoyancy help to relieve physical burdens and brighten the spirits. Researchers have observed the healing effects of this type of therapy. This Spa therapy provides improved circulation, decreased joint pain, and acceleration of the body's natural healing processes.

No scientific research is needed to appreciate these benefits: the instinctive comfort of getting into soothing warm massage jet driven water. Stress & strain of modern day life to release itself into the warm waters and the spring in your step after a session in a modern Hot Tub is noticeable. Lastly Aromatherapy is defined as the use of evaporating plant oils, including essential oils, for psychological and physical well-being. Specific scents can have beneficial effects on your mind and body. In conclusion there are many advantages to be gained by the regular use of Hot Tub and the Hydro Massage and Hydro Therapy Treatment that it provides

The Most Expensive Minicab Rides in the World Thursday, September 9, 2010

Snipers, road side bombers and grenade launchers are not things you usually associate with your average minicab ride but for contractors in Iraq these are real threats, which is why it is on our list of the most expensive minicab rides in the world.

Construction work in Iraq has become big business with Westerners being paid large sums to travel over to Iraq to help re-build its cities and towns. However with all the turmoil in this wore torn country it is not simply a case of jumping on a plane and starting work, you need serious close protection to make it safely to your destination. For almost £3,000 you receive an armoured convoy with former military personnel armed with MP5 submachine guns, M16 rifles and AK47 assault rifles. The convoy normally contains a transportation vehicle accompanied by 1 or ideally 2 chase cars which are present to attack any assailants.

There are specialised kidnapping gangs which sell victims to terrorists for £150,000; obviously this is a very attractive proposition to many, which is why the cab fare is so expensive. For a 10 mile trip from the airport the fare equals £300 per mile, easily making it one of the most expensive cab rides in the world.

Celebrity Cab Fares

What would you pay to get home if you were stranded? Its hard to put a figure on something like this unless you are physically put in that situation; however it seems we know how much Monty Python actor John Cleese would pay. He recently spent $5,000 for a single minicab ride from Oslo, Norway to Brussels, Belgium. Mr Cleese who was being interviewed by Norway TV2 became stranded by the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud, with no other alternative but to take a minicab he paid the fare and took the 930 mile trip to Brussels. The minicab came with two extra drivers for the long journey.

The Latest London Minicabs

Cab fares could become rather expensive with the unveiling of new hydrogen powered black cabs. They deliver zero emissions making them very eco-friendly and have a range of 250 miles with a top speed of around 70 MPH. They also only take 5 minutes to refuel. It is not known how expensive they will be but other prototypes in Japan have been priced at around $300,000. There are 20,000 London minicabs so reducing the carbon footprint of cabs is a very important issue. It is hoped that by 2012 there will be a fleet of 20 hydrogen powered taxis with more to follow.

Other Expensive Minicabs

Other expensive minicabs include Rolls Royce Phantoms in London which can be hired for a day for a cool £1,200 pounds, if you want to catch some of the sites in style. Interestingly enough London does not have the most expensive cabs in the world, Moscow does. In terms of extravagance Moscow has to take the top spot. It is not uncommon to spot £300,000 Maybach minicabs riding around as well as Porsches and Rolls Royce Phantoms. So next time you are in Moscow make sure you take a look what make of car it is before you jump in as it could seriously dent your wallet.

American Airlines Adds Boeing 757-200ERs to Overseas Routes - Is This a Good Deal? Thursday, September 2, 2010

A May 8th story in a nationwide daily newspaper highlights the fact of American making a decision to go with narrow body Boeing 757 aircraft types on certain overseas routes. The airline joins Northwest (soon to be Delta) Airlines, for one, in using 757-200 aircraft that have been retrofitted with winglets (they increase a plane's life and enhance fuel economy) and certified for what's called ETOPS ("Extended-Range Twin-Engine Operations") flights to destinations overseas. In the airline biz, we refer to ETOPS as "Engines Turn, OR Passengers Swim." Just a joke, folks, just a joke!

American states it'll be flying to a number of Latin American and European destinations using the 757-200ER. It's already kicked off the experiment, placing this aircraft on its New York (JFK) to Brussels, Belgium (BRU) route. Cabin configuration will be 16 seats "up front" (First Class) in a 2 and 2 (2 nice seats on each side, with an aisle separating them) and 166 seats "in back" (Coach or Economy Class) in a 3 and 3 arrangement.

Having had to "work" (turnaround) these ETOPS 757-200s on the ground, I'm don't know if they're the greatest aircraft in the world to use on very long routes such as these. For anybody who's ever had to fly for several hours in the center seat on a 757, let me just borrow a phrase from Bill Clinton and say that "I can feel your pain."

And for "below wing" (those employees loading, unloading or refueling and otherwise working outside on the aircraft while it's in the gate) folks turning this plane around...well, I hope you're doing plenty of low-back exercises and more than a few biceps curls because this plane can be a crusher without enough staff put on it to work it.

Still, it's economical enough to fly, with two fuel-efficient engines. And if the leadership at American is smart (a point worthy of debate), it'll cut its customers a price break on the tickets. I doubt it, though. Airline economics being what they are these days - and with the price of jet fuel ("Jet A") going up and down like a roller coaster car -- most airlines are desperate to squeeze economies out of any flight they operate while simultaneously inching the cost of a ticket upward over time.

The Best of Manhattan - Neighborhoods Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Whether you are a resident or a visitor, everyone loves New York. The beauty and vibrancy are second to none, and Manhattan is everything you thought it would be, and so much more!

I live in Manhattan, and as I'm sure you can imagine, I've greatly explored and took in as much of this amazing area as I could. The enormity of New York, however, makes it impossible to be properly a part of it. However much you try, there just isn't enough time.

These are my favorite parts of Manhattan, When you come to New York I want you see this wonderful city through my eyes, not through a tourist brochure. Trust me, you'll love it!

One of my favorite areas is the amazing East Village. This is where I prefer to spend my evenings in the many wonderful bars and restaurants.

If you want to shop for clothes, grab a drink, or choose from a great variety of food styles, the East Village is the place for you. Geared towards the younger age group of twenties and thirties, this square mile is busy, vibrant and very cosmopolitan. The Lower East side borders it at the bottom and it's very easy to cross from one to other without realising it.

If you are looking for somewhere that caters more for those out of the East Village age bracket, head for the West Village. The trees that line the sidewalks outside the boutiques and cafes add to the attraction of this area. If you like a lively atmosphere coupled with lovely scenery, this is the place for you.

One of the most naturally beautiful parts of the wonderful city is Central Park. Residing in the area known as the Upper West Side, this combines everything that you expect from Manhattan; style and elegance.

I hope I've got across you what a great place Manhattan is, and that no trip to New York is complete without visiting this wonderful borough. Oh there's more, believe me, but that's enough for today!

Felicia knows even more about round tablecloths than she does about Manhattan. You can see this at http://roundtablecloths.org.

The Fall 2008 Financial Crisis

In early 2007, I researched an article I was writing for someone's website on how to qualify for a home mortgage loan. That is, I was checking out the various rules of thumb and criteria that banks and other lenders used to evaluate people applying for home loans, and then either approve or deny their mortgage applications.

I'd gotten a lot of good info on these various financial ratios and was about to stop researching and start writing the article, when I came across another source of info that was... quite disturbing.

In retrospect, however, I was not nearly as disturbed as I should have been.

As I would have been, had I realized all the implications.

The article, written by an insider in the mortgage industry, basically said that all the traditional standards banks had historically applied to evaluate mortgage loan applications (and which I'd just spent a few hours looking up!) had, in actual practice, been thrown out the window.

The mortgage industry was in a "nudge nudge, wink wink" mode. If you claimed to have enough income to pay your monthly note, your mortgage loan was approved. Period. Even if you had a very low down payment. Even if you had no downpayment whatsoever.

At the time, I was disturbed simply because I'd previously applied and been approved for two home mortgages, and had had to go through a lot of red tape to prove my income, my credit worthiness, where my downpayment came from, and so on.

It just plain didn't seem fair to me that just because interest rates in 2007 were so much lower than they were when I bought houses, that people didn't have to come up with a downpayment, prove their sources of income or even have good credit scores.

However, it explained what I'd seen in my day job -- mothers with little or no income of their own buying houses because they had children on Supplemental Security Income (SSI). That's a form of welfare.

The mortgage industry was so crazy that women could get mortgage approved on the basis of receiving a government check on behalf of their children. (Incidentally, that check is intended by the law to take care of the children not to buy houses for their mothers.)

I didn't realize that I was looking at information that, before long, would:

Change the face of the largest Wall Street financial institutions -- taking down ALL 5 investment banks.

Transform and vastly increase the role of the United States Treasury Department and Federal Reserve.

Make every book on bonds obsolete when it came to the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac), as both companies had to be seized and put under conservatorship by the federal government

Make even ordinary money market mutual funds look like unsafe investments (Reserve Management Company's Prime Fund actually "broke the buck" (went down in value to 97 cents) -- because it held a lot of commercial paper from suddenly-bankrupt Lehman Brothers -- sparking a flight from prime money market funds ($500 billion) to treasury money market funds -- $380 billion).

Force the U.S. Federal Reserve to tap into the little-known Exchange Stabilization Fund to lend money directly to U.S. companies -- the first time it's done that since the Great Depression. But the short term cash many companies depend on to do business has been drying up with the credit markets and money market fund problems (money market funds held 40% of the outstanding short term commercial paper of U.S. companies).

Force the passage of the most massive taxpayer-funded bailout bill in history (though since dwarfed by President Obama's even more massive taxpayer-funded bailout bills).

Cause the Dow Jones Industrial Average to drop to a level (9400 on October 7) it first passed up in March 1999. That's down right about 1/3 from its all-time high of 14,093.08, which it reached the week of October 8, 2007. (It's since rallied, but in March 2009 broke below 7,000).

Cause the failure and near-failure of banks (Washington Mutual, National City, Wachovia) and insurance companies (American International Group) in the United States.

Cause the failure and near-failure of financial institutions around the world. Iceland took over its second largest bank, Landbanski. The United Kingdom put together a 500 billion pound financial rescue package. The UK took over lender Bradford & Bingley. The giant Dutch-Belgium bank Fortis had to be partially nationalized. In Germany, Hypo Real Estate was given a 35 billion euro bailout.

Force central banks from the EU to Sweden to Japan to Australia to China to the United Kingdom to Switzerland to Canada to lower interest rates.

Force the U.S. government to suspend short sales of 950 financial-related stocks.

Possibly changed the outcome of the November 2008 United States presidential election. John McCain was leading the polls until September 2009 when this crisis really hit the fan. Pollsters found that independents blamed him, as a Republican, for the financial crisis.

Cause stock markets around the world to fall. Russian and Indonesian stock exchanges had to be closed down.

Make it MUCH harder -- and more expensive -- for both individuals and businesses to get loans.

Threaten the United States and the world with economic recession or depression.

Although the news media keeps claiming we're entering a recovery, we're still at great risk.
