For some time now I've been aware of the horrible health problems contained within a tube of toothpaste, but lately it's becoming something I'm thinking about a lot. Flurosis is probably a word not many people have heard of, yet. But it's becoming more and more common in society now... The cause? Fluoride toxicity.
Too much fluoride in the body becomes toxic, same as anything which has become over-exposed in the body; even air can become toxic if too much is taken in at any one time, because the body can't handle it. What we also must remember though, is that fluoride itself IS an extremely dangerous substance and is used as a pesticide for small pests including rats and mice!
Symptoms of flurosis:
- Permanent tooth discoloration
- Chalky white patches on teeth
- Brown strained teeth
- Yellow stained teeth
- Weak teeth
- Weakens bones
- Damages enamel-forming cells
Effects of fluoride in the body:
- Fluoride can start to deposit within the bones
- Fluoride stimulates un-natural bone growth
- Fluoride mutates human cells (a mutated cell is a diseased cell)
- Fluoride competes with iodine which can cause thyroid problems
- Fluoride has shown to cause bone cancer
- Fluoride increases the risk of cancer and tumor growth anywhere in the body
- Fluoride is linked to causing osteosarcoma
- Fluoride damages the cells in teeth
- Fluoride is heavily linked to causing bone deforming arthritic-type diseases
- Fluoride increases the aging process
- Fluoride disrupts the healthy function of the immune system
- Fluoride increases arthritis
- Ok that's enough... I could be here all day!
So how is society becoming over-exposed to fluoride?
- Water supply
- Tea (not all)
- Fluoridated dentil products
- Sprayed on fruits and vegetables
- Dentist use at the end of visits
- Industrial air emissions containing fluoride
- Medicines containing fluoride
Toothpaste is something we use one, twice or maybe even three times a day and therefore is playing a big roll in increasing fluoride levels within the body, in-fact, there is enough fluoride in a family size tube of toothpaste to kill an 11kg (25pound) child. With that being said, I'm sure we can all agree that there is obviously way too much fluoride in toothpaste to keep using it, day after day after day.
In some countries, including the US, manufactures must put a warning on every tube of toothpaste saying "If more than used for brushing is accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact a poison-control center right away". The size recommended on a tube of toothpaste for brushing your teeth is the size of a pea!
There is enough fluoride in our water supply to start causing negative effects on our health; even counties such as Belgium, Norway, France, Sweden and the UK have banned fluoride from their water supply due to the lack of quality evidence showing fluoride to be beneficial towards our health, and the concern over possible health risks from an over exposure to fluoride.
One brand of toothpaste that I know of that does NOT contain fluoride or other health declining ingredients, is Weleda.
